The mere title of this book suggests that life is a fleeting journey of experiences that prepares us to make choices that will help us to better understand our purpose in the order of creation.  I Shall Not Pass This Way Again is my testimony of determination in my quest to find my place in a life of multiple choices.  The writing of the book attempts to convey encouragement to those who fight the constant battle of total acceptance in a community of deception and rejection.  The chapters reveal interplay between self-definition and the need to be of service to humankind.

The reader will discover ascension from fear and obscurity to appoint of inner spirit comfort. The development of comfort began during my introduction in the civil rights movement in Montgomery , Alabama where the realization on my race and culture became a sense of pride.  The book also a point in time when I became torn between my commitment to the struggle of civil rights and studying to be a professional performing vocal artist.  Writing this book provided me the opportunity to make an introspective review of the various benchmarks, on the journey of my life, that have given rise to a better understanding of my purpose.

I have attempted to dedicate an authentic human story that negates the impossible and gives impetus to possibilities when there is unconditional faith in God.  The example of the uncertain transfer from Alabama State College for Negroes to Xavier University, where it appeared my college education would be interrupted, because of insufficient funds, the uncertainty of recovery after cardiac surgery, and the deep disappointment in a failed college romance.  With these adversities came a strong spirit of hope that is founded in faith, and a belief that wherever I had been, wherever I am, and wherever I am going is a true sign of divine providence that is rooted in the oversight of almighty God.

In summary, the book is episodic, in nature, and very much connected to a path that is leading to inner joy, peace and love.  I must continue to follow this path, because I Shall Not Pass This Way Again........Elbert Ransom, Jr., D.Min.
