The Student Connection is a special program for school youth who are interested in working toward a better understanding of the different races and cultures in their community. The Student Connection is an initiative that responds to the need to enhance better communications between students of different races and cultures. 

PURPOSE

The Student Connection promotes frank and honest dialogue across racial and cultural lines, and develops solutions that result in respect, harmony, and peace for all people.

Facilitate dialogue among students from diverse cultures   
Promote active participation by students in identifying barriers to cross-cultural acceptance and understanding;   
Develop activities that enhance dialogue and action toward student awareness and appreciation for all races and cultures.     
GOALS 

The program goals are to identify and develop solutions through dialogue that enhance relationships between diverse races and cultures, where all feel a sense of security, peace, and the freedom to explore the void that separates us from one another. The goal is to further generate a vision for true community by:  
Examining the current state of race and cultural relations;
Enhancing communication across racial and cultural lines;
Developing methods to identify problems in critical areas; and
Developing strategies to ensure safer communities and encourage sensitivity.
The Student Connection is a vehicle to cause positive transformation of behaviors  that have stymied progress in racial and cultural relations. It is open to  students who have the desire and will to understand the value of celebrating and respecting humanity regardless of origin, race, culture, ethnicity, gender or color. 

America is undergoing an emphatic change in traditional cultures.  The time is upon us to look at ourselves and others who do not resemble us, speak as we do, or espouse the same values.  The more we understand and celebrate other cultures, the more we invest in the safety of our future.

The Student Connection activities result in normal interactive relationships between cultures and builds bridges to connect the divides.  Experience teaches us that youth are not reticent about discussing sensitive issues such as race and culture.  This program assures a positive community building process.
